However, a clash between Police and farmer broke down at the Ghazipur border where Police tried to stop the farmers from entering the Delhi region by placing barricades. The rally, which started from Tikait Ghat in Haridwar on September 23, was planned to reach Kisan Ghat in New Delhi. Kisan Ghat is the memorial of renowned farmer leader Chaudhary Charan Singh. The National Highways leading to Delhi were completely blocked with farmers who came from places as far as Gonda, Basti and Gorakhpur in eastern Uttar Pradesh and the sugarcane belt of western UP. Around 50,000 farmers under the banner of Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) have started marching towards the national capital as a part of protest to demand loan waiver and reduction in electricity on October 2. However, the Delhi Police earlier today used water cannons, tear gas and later opened lathicharge when they tried to break the barricading at the UP gate near Ghazipur border to enter Delhi. According to reports, Police officials first tried to stop the farmers but later had to use water cannons and fire teargas shells to disperse the crowd. Meanwhile, it is also being reported that police resorted to lathicharge on farmers, possibly injuring some of them. (Image: ABP Live)
