The talismanic batter played an unbeaten inning of 166 runs to notch up his 74th international and 46th ODI ton. During his innings, the star batter hammered 13 fours and 8 sixes.
By the virtue of this knock, Virat Kohli (21) broke Sachin's (20) record of most ODI tons by any batter at home in ODIs. Third in the list is Hashim Amla with 14 ODI tons.
Kohli is now the first batter to score a total of 10 ODI tons against a single opponent, also the most ODI tons against a single opponent outright.
Virat is also nearing Sachin Tendulkar's all-time tally in ODIs. Virat (46 tons in 252 innings) is just three tons behind Tendulkar's (49 tons in 452 innings).
Post the conclusion of this series, India will host New Zealand for a white-ball series comprising 3 ODIs followed by as many T20Is.
