However, there is some good news coming in the fans’ away as they will again have the opportunity of seeing Sangakkara in the IPL, albeit as a commentator.
The 40-year old has arrived in India and will soon be seen in the commentary box during IPL matches.
Sangakkara was associated with the IPL Dugout team for a brief period at the start of the season but due to personal commitments had to leave mid-way.
The stylish wicket-keeper batsman last led the Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2014, in which he letter on replaced by Shikhar Dhawan as the captain.
With eight centuries and 1,491 runs at an average of 106.50, Sangakkara etched his name on the record books and decided to hang his boots from first-class cricket.
The passion for the game, however, drove Sangakkara to the cricket field as he signed for Pakistan Super League side Multan Sultans for the third edition in 2018.
He displayed stellar performances, leading his side to victory on multiple occasions and all this came three years after he had announced retirement from international cricket in 2015.
In IPL, though Sangakkara was not able to set the stage on fire. Sangakkara has scored 1567 runs with 10 half-centuries in 62 matches in IPL.
If there is anyone who has struck fear into the hearts of the bowlers even after his retirement from international cricket, that is Kumar Sangakkara.
One of the all time greats of the game, the former Sri Lanka captain broke records in his county stint with Surrey last year.
