Babar Azam-led Pakistan, after 4 wins and 5 loses from 9 matches, failed to qualify for ODI World Cup 2023 semifinal, finishing at fifth position in ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 Points Standings at the end of group stage matches.
The report in PTI also states that Younis Khan might also be considered for a significant role within the national set-up.
PCB's cricket management committee head Zaka Ashraf reportedly met Younis Khan in Lahore on Tuesday and asked him to consider going with the Pakistan cricket team to Australia and New Zealand for the Test and T20 series.
The report also says that Pakistan captain Babar Azam has been summoned by Zaka for a meeting on Wednesday to discuss Pakistan's disappointing performance in ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
As per the PTI report, Zaka Ashraf was advised that he should, at the very least, wait and observe how Babar Azam performs as captain in Australia and New Zealand. If the team's performance continues to be subpar, similar to the World Cup, then changes can be considered before the next T20 World Cup.
