The IPL spot fixing controversy brought down the credibility of the tournament massively. In 2013, S Sreesanth, Ajit Chandela and Ankit Chavan were arrested for match fixing by the Delhi police. This controversy also highlighted the involvement of CSK owner Gurunath Meiyappan and RR owner raj Kundra. This was unarguably the darkest hour in the Indian cricketing history as off-spinner Harbhajan Singh slapped S Sreesanth right after Kings XI Punjab defeated Mumbai Indians in 2008. Sreesanth was slapped because of his aggressive behavior towards Harbhajan. Later, Harbhajan was banned for entire season
Rahul Sharma and Wayne Parnell were detained for consuming drugs during a rave party in Mumbai in 2012. Both players represented Pune Warriors India, which is now a defunct franchise.
