Every Bengali home on Mahalaya rises early in the morning, even before the sun. The event is related with several activities and ceremonies. On this day, many people do 'tarpan' to offer prayers to their ancestors' departed souls and to provide 'bhog' to the Brahmins, as well as food and resources to the destitute.(Image Source: ANI)
During this day, certain Hindu households perform the pitru tarpan ritual, in which they offer prayers and offerings (pind-daan) to the dead ancestors on the banks of the Ganga.
