National Highway Authority of India(NHAI) announced a toll fee in March for vehicles using the first stretch of the expressway (55.63 km) from Bengaluru to Nidaghatta in Mandya district.
Even ordinary commuters staged protest over having to pay a higher toll fee to travel on the e-way, and the technical difficulties faced by them like malfunctioning of barriers and broken FASTag scanners.
Due to the closure of service lanes, farmers had to resort to using the highways where they were charged double the toll price as their vehicles didn't have FASTag sticker on it.
