Akhtar shared, We are going to write together again. I've spoken to him (Salim Khan), and we’ve decided, 'Bas ek aur picture hum likhenge saath mein' (We will write just one more film together).
He humorously added, Even back then, our fees were high; now they will be even higher, so be prepared for that.
Salim-Javed are celebrated for reshaping the Bollywood blockbuster with their films, which not only catered to the masses but also reflected the societal angst of their era.
The iconic screenwriting duo are known to transform Indian cinema in the 1970s with classics like Zanjeer, Sholay, and Deewar.
They were the first Indian screenwriters to attain superstar status.
Having collaborated on 22 Hindi films and two Kannada movies, the duo eventually parted ways in 1982.
The title of the docuseries, Angry Young Men, is a nod to the iconic angry young man character they crafted in the '70s—a character that became symbolic of the times and played a significant role in establishing Amitabh Bachchan as a superstar.
The three-part series will premiere on Prime Video on August 20. (All images: Manav Manglani)
