There are several temples across India where you get to see unique offerings of prasad made to the Gods. One such temple is the 56 Bhairav temple located in Bhagtipura area of Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh. On the occasion of Bhairav Ashtami, around 1,351 types of Bhog, including liquors and cigarettes, were offered to Lord Bhairavnath on Wednesday.


There is a tradition of offering liquor in the Kaal Bhairav temple of Ujjain. The Bhairav Ashtami festival has been celebrated here since the ancient era. As a result, Bhairav Baba was adorned attractively and after worship, Mahabhog was offered, reported news agency ANI.


Different types of liquor, cigarettes, Bhang and weed were among 1,351 types of dishes offered to the God as part of the Mahabhog.

The ingredients of the prasad are made available by the devotees to the priests who offer them to Bhairavnath and later distribute it among devotees.


According to ANI, 1351 types of dishes include 390 types of incense sticks,180 types of face masks, 64 Kinds of Chocolate, 55 types of sweets, 45 types of biscuits, 60 types of Gujarati Namkeen, 56 types of snacks, 75 types of dry fruits, 30 types of Gajak, 28 types of soft drinks, 28 types of fruits, 40 types of liquor (Rum, Whiskey, Tequila, Vodka Beer and Champagne), chillum, cannabis, 40 types of bakery items and 60 types of sachet cigarette.


The people of the region have immense faith in Bhairavnath. Devotees believe that on offering prayers to the God on Bhairav Ashtami in the temple will fulfill all their wishes. Large number of people from across the country come to Ujjain on Bhairav Ashtami to offer prayers to Lord Bhairavnath and seek blessings for their well being.
