New Delhi: A three-year-old girl in Mexico woke up during her funeral after the doctors mistakenly declared her dead. According to reports, she was admitted to the hospital after the toddler experienced stomach pains, vomiting and fever in her hometown of Villa de Ramos, where the doctors said she ‘died’ from a stomach bug.

According to a report by local publication El Universal, the girl’s mother initially took the toddler to the paediatrician who advised her to take the child to a bigger hospital.

The child was prescribed a paracetamol but after her condition started deteriorating, she was taken to another doctor, who gave her a different set of medication and asked the mother to give the toddler fruits and water.

However, after the girl showed no signs of improvement, her family rushed her to the emergency room of a hospital.

According to a report by New York Post, her mother alleged that the hospital stuff took a long time to put her on oxygen support and after 10 minutes of intravenous fluids, the doctors removed it and asked her mother to let her daughter “rest in peace”.

As per the report, the next day during her funeral, someone noticed condensation on the glass panel of the toddler’s coffin, and after sometime, one of her family members spotted her eyes moving and shockingly discovered a pulse.

According to the report, the child was again rushed to the hospital in an ambulance where the doctors unsuccessfully tried to revive her and declared her dead - this time from a cerebral edema (brain swelling).

As per the El Universal report, her mother has filed a case against the doctors for negligence and said that although she does not hold any grudge against the healthcare professionals, she wanted them charged so that "this does not happen again".

Notably, the San Luis Potosi State Attorney General has launched a probe into the matter.
