An artist from Odisha claims to have crafted the world’s smallest hockey sticks to mark the commencement of FIH Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023. Photos and videos of the miniature sports equipment has gone viral on social media. 


A resident of Berhampur in Odisha, miniature artist Satya Narayan Maharana took only 30 minutes to make both sticks along with the carving and the painting. 


The height of one stick is 5 mm and its width is 1 mm, while the other stick is 1 cm in height and 1 mm in width. They are smaller than the size of Maharana’s eye, reported OTV News.


The hockey sticks are reportedly made of ‘Gambhari’ wood.


The 37-year-old miniature artist is now aiming to enter the Guinness Book of World Records for his latest art work. Maharana has over 25 international and national records to his name for creating miniature artefacts.






FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup, 2023 got underway at the picturesque Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Wednesday evening with a spectacular opening ceremony. The stadium was jam packed with hockey lovers from across the country and abroad.

Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, FIH president Tayyab Ikram and Hockey India chairman Dilip Tirkey were among the guests present at the occasion.


The World Cup will get underway on 13 January 2023, with the first two matches of the day being played in Bhubaneswar followed by two more matches in the evening, in the brand-new Birsa Munda International Hockey stadium in Rourkela, reported ANI


The grand event will be held in Odisha for the second consecutive time and will come to an end on January 29.
