New Delhi: In a shocking incident that took place in the Dindoshi area of Maharashtra's capital Mumbai, Police has recovered a bag containing gold Jewellery worth ₹ 5 lakhs from a garbage dump in the Dindoshi area. The jewellery belonged to 45-year-old Sundari Planibel who works as a domestic help in Goregaon's Gokuldham Colony. With the help of CCTV, Mumbai Police recovered a bag containing gold ornaments from the garbage dump. The police have handed over the pouch, which is worth around Rs 5 lakh, to the victim woman.

"When Ms Planibel reached the bank she realised she had kept her jewellery in the same bag," said Chandrakant Gharge, Sub Inspector, Dindoshi.

The matter came to light when Sundari, who lives in the Aarey Colony area of Dindoshi police station, was going to mortgage 10 tolas of gold ornaments kept in the house in the bank to pay off the marriage loan of her daughter. Meanwhile, while on the way, Sundari saw a beggar woman and her child. She gave a bag of vada pav kept in the bag to two children and went away. When she reached the bank, she came to know that the gold ornaments were kept in the same bag that she gave to the children. She immediately left the bank and started searching for children in the same area but couldn't find them. She then approached the police and sought their help.

Suraj Raut, the head of the Dindoshi Police's detection team, immediately started investigating the matter. Officer Raut checked the CCTV footage installed at the spot and the beggar woman was seen leaving. When the police contacted the woman, she told that they had thrown the bag into a garbage dump since they did not want to eat vada pav.

When the police examined the CCTV footage installed near the garbage dump, it was found that the garbage bag the police were looking for was in the possession of a mouse. Actually, a mouse was entering that bag and was eating the big paw kept in it.

"Police later recovered the gold jewellery after checking the CCTV footage which showed a few rats taking the bag of gold from the garbage dump to a gutter," Gharge said.  The police eventually found the bag with the gold ornaments intact.
