Idli is one of those popular South Indian dishes that people across the country love to eat. Along with being reasonably priced it is also easily and readily available. But can you imagine someone eating idlis worth Rs 6 lakh in a year? According to food aggregator Swiggy, a single user from Hyderabad spent Rs 6 lakh on 8,428 plates of idlis, including orders placed for friends and family, from March 30, 2022, to March 25, 2023, reported PTI.
Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai are the top three cities where idlis are ordered the most, followed by Mumbai, Coimbatore, Pune, Vizag, Delhi, Kolkata and Kochi, Swiggy further said on the occasion of World Idli Day on Thursday. The food aggregator has delivered 33 million plates of Idlis across the country in the last 12 months.
''Swiggy has delivered 33 million plates of Idlis in the last 12 months, indicating the immense popularity of this dish among customers. Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai are the top three cities where idlis are ordered the most,'' the company said.

The analysis also revealed that 8 am to 10 am is the most popular time to order idlis, with consumers from Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Coimbatore and Mumbai also ordering idlis during dinner time. Plain idli is the most ordered variant across all cities, with a plate of two pieces being the most common order. Rava idli was ordered the most in Bengaluru compared to any other big cities. While people living in cities of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana preferred ghee/neyi karam podi idli.
The top five restaurants that are popular for their idlis are A2B - Adyar Ananda Bhavan in Bangalore and Chennai, Varalakshmi Tiffins in Hyderabad, Sangeetha Veg Restaurant in Chennai and Udipi's Upahar in Hyderabad, the company said, according to PTI.
