The festival of Diwali is marked with various rituals and traditions across regions in the country with some very peculiar ones involving pelting of stones, lashing a whip, or hurling firecrackers. In one such tradition, devotees in Madhya Pradesh’ Ujjain let cows run over them believing that doing so will make their wishes come true.

In a video shared by news agency ANI, some men could be seen laying flat on the ground while a dozen cows trample over them in village Bhidavad of Badnagar tehsil in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain.

The ritual is performed on the next day of the Diwali.

In another ritual in Chhattisgarh, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel was seen getting whip-lashed on the arm as a part of a ritual on the day of 'Gaura-Gauri' pooja, a day after Diwali.

Up in the north, the festival of Diwali is celebrated by observing a unique tradition at Pathar ka Mela, particularly in Halog village. The people participate in a stone-pelting activity and interestingly, getting struck by the stones during the event is believed to bring good luck.

In some regions of Gujarat, people engage in a peculiar Diwali tradition where they playfully hurl lit firecrackers at each other. The age-old ritual, which otherwise seems hazardous, is a distinctive practice in Gujarat’s Panchmahal village.
