New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday expressed grave concern over the situation in Manipur saying she was pained to hear the “heart-wrenching” stories coming out of the northeast state.

Taking to Twitter, the West Bengal CM wrote, “My heart aches deeply upon hearing the heart-wrenching stories from Manipur. Human lives should never endure the agonies of hatred's cruel experiments.”

She added, however, that the Opposition bloc will strive to heal the wounds in the strife-torn state and “rekindle humanity”.

“Yet, in the face of silence from those in power, let us find solace in knowing that INDIA will mend wounds and rekindle the flame of humanity,” the TMC supremo wrote.

Her remarks came on a day the delegation of Opposition MPs wound up their two-day visit to Manipur.

On the final day of their visit on Sunday, the delegation, which had representatives from TMC as well, called on Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey and submitted a memorandum.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, who was part of the delegation, said the leaders shared experiences of their visits to relief camps where locals, displaced by the violence, are currently sheltered.

He said the Governor was of the opinion that all leaders, communities and stake-holders should come together and help restore peace to the state.

Meanwhile, Mamata further called on Manipur’s “brave brothers and sisters” to shun violence and help peace return to the state.

“I earnestly plead to Manipur's brave brothers and sisters to embrace peace for the sake of humanity. We stand beside you, offering unwavering support and compassion,” the West Bengal CM tweeted.

Responding to CM Mamata Banerjee's tweet, Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, as quoted by news agency ANI, said, "It is a politically mala fide tweet. The administration of CM Banerjee did not take any action to stop the violence during the Panchayat poll elections in the state...PM Modi's govt will complete 10 years in a few months and there are no corruption charges. Under PM Modi's leadership the country has progressed and its financial status has also improved."
