Congress on Thursday alleged that the violence in Manipur was 'pre-planned' and demanded immediate imposition of President's Rule in the state in order to restore normalcy and peace. Party spokesperson and Manipur in-charge Bhakta Charan Das said that the violence it seems was "preplanned" as no one from the Centre is monitoring the issue. Das demanded a compensation of Rs 20 lakh to be given to the next of kin of the deceased. He also demanded the government to give Rs 5 lakh to those whose houses were destroyed in the violence, reported news agency PTI.
While addressing a press conference he said that the injured should be treated immediately and a safe space needs to be created for the people so that they could return to their homes and neighbourhood.
"The BJP government has utterly failed to control the situation (in Manipur). It has been unable to stop violence, unable to stop weapons from being looted or recover them, unable to rescue innocent people, and unable to provide facilities to those in relief camps," Das was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

He also accused the central government of not working according to the contitution and demanded President's Rule in Manipur.
"In this situation, we demand that President's Rule be immediately imposed to stop these incidents (of violence) which are happening even now." he said.
He said that Presiden't Rule will ensure law and order in the state and bring more accountability.
The Congress spokesperson also launched an attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Home Minister Amit Shah and said, "The home minister (Amit Shah) has still not visited Manipur and the prime minister (Narendra Modi) has not even tweeted while appealing for peace."
