Guwahati: Security forces in Manipur have arrested seven persons, including a Myanmar national, from different locations under the jurisdiction of the Moreh police station, in the trouble-torn state’s Tengnoupal district, and recovered a huge cache of ammunition and explosives, including ammonium nitrate.
Following the killing of the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Moreh, Chingtham Anand Kumar, by armed miscreants on October 31, the security forces launched massive search operations in the entire area bordering Myanmar to arrest the perpetrators behind the murder of the officer.
The security forces while carrying out search operations at the Chavangphai, Yangoubung, Seijang and Zion Veng areas of the district, arrested the seven accused and recovered 102 live rounds of 12-bore gun bullets, explosive materials including 2.5 kilograms of ammonium nitrate, 60 grams of sulphur dioxide, 10 grams of gunpowder and a Chinese hand grenade, the Manipur police said in a post on X.
Other than the Tengnoupal district, the security forces also carried out several search operations in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Imphal West, Thoubal, Kakching and Kangpokpi districts. During one such operation conducted at the Loiching range in Kangpokpi district, the security forces recovered a Self-Loading Rifle (SLR) along with a magazine, a muzzle-loading rifle, a carbine magazine and a wireless radio set, the police said.
In another series of operations carried out at Imphal West district, the Manipur police recovered four Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs), which were taken away by armed miscreants from the vicinity of Jail Road in the district on Wednesday, it added.
Meanwhile, the Manipur police have detained as many as 1,320 persons in connection with violation of law in different districts of the state. The overall law and order situation however remained peaceful over the past 24 hours with no incident of violence being reported from any part of the crisis-hit northeastern state.
