Video Of Manipur Man Being Burnt 'Alive' Surfaces, I.N.D.I.A Bloc Says PM Modi Failed To Save State

Opposition's I.N.D.I.A bloc has criticised the Centre after a video of a man being burnt "alive" in Manipur has surfaced on social media.

A video of a man being burnt "alive" in the strife-torn Manipur has surfaced igniting the debate around the situation in the northeastern state that is still battling to recover from marks of violence. Sharing the seven-second video on X, formerly today, the opposition has lashed out at PM Narendra Modi and said that he "failed" in saving the state. The post claimed the man being burnt in the video is a "Kuki" tribal.

"This is from Manipur!! Kuki tribal youth burnt alive in Manipur, The incident of passing away is extremely sad and shameful. Modi ji is expressing sorrow about the neighboring country but failed to Save Manipur..," the I.N.D.I.A (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance) bloc said in the post.

The video shows a man being set ablaze in a trench. Media reports quoted police as saying that the video appeared to be from early May and that they were investigating the case, reported Hindustan Times.

The incident comes days after a video showing men killing two students surfaced on social media. Later, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested four people in connection with the kidnapping and killing of the two students, Chief Minister N Biren Singh said, adding his government will ensure stringent punishment for them, PTI reported. 

The four, including the wife of the main accused, were taken “outside the state” by a special flight, the chief minister said. However, he did not disclose where they were taken.

The internet services ban was extended in the state till October 6, after being reimposed on September 16 after violent protests erupted in the northeast state over the brutal murder of two students.  Although the ban was lifted on September 23, the Manipur government re-imposed it two days later, citing concerns over the potential spread of rumours through social media platforms.

Around over a month ago, a video of two women being paraded naked by a group of men went viral on social media. It drew massive criticism from the opposition and went on to severely impact Parliament's monsoon session in July.

 

Internet Ban Extended In Manipur Till Oct 11

On the other hand, the Manipur government on Friday extended the internet ban in the state for five more days. An order issued by the Manipur Home Department said that the Director General of Police's letter dated October 6 says that clashes with security forces, attempts to crowd the residences of elected members and violent incidents related to civil protests etc. in front of police stations are still being reported in the state.

It stated that it is possible that some anti-social elements may use social media on a large scale to incite public sentiments, broadcast hate speech and hate video messages, which may lead to the law and order situation in Manipur. The situation may have serious consequences, the official statement read.
