Rana Goswami, formerly the Working President of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee and now a member of the BJP, has been appointed as the vice president of the Assam State BJP.


According to the ANI, Goswami submitted his resignation from the Congress party on Wednesday and officially joined the BJP on Thursday. This significant move took place in the presence of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, state BJP president Bhabesh Kalita, and other notable leaders at the state BJP headquarters in Guwahati.






In a letter to the Congress General Secretary, KC Venugopal, Rana Goswami stated, "I beg to state that I am tendering my resignation as the working President of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee and as an active member of Indian National Congress."

Several Influential Figures Pledge Their Support To Join BJP


Alongside Goswami, another prominent leader, Jayanta Bora, also decided to join the BJP. "Rana Goswami has left Congress. He was the working president of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee. Today, he is joining the BJP. There are a lot of leaders who are joining the BJP. This time, our target is 12+ seats. Last time, we got 9 seats," he said, ANI reported.


Earlier, on February 14, CM Himanta Sarma disclosed that four Congress MLAs had pledged their support to the state government.


"Two Congress MLAs Basanta Das and Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha have extended their support to the Assam government. Earlier, two Congress MLAs Sashi Kanta Das and Siddique Ahmed had extended their support to the state. So far, four Congress MLAs have extended their support to the government. In the coming days, all opposition MLAs will extend their support to the government," Sarma remarked, as per ANI.
