Assam on Thursday recorded its biggest-ever drug haul as the Special Task Force (STF) Assam and Cachar Police seized 21kg heroin worth Rs 210 crore in Silchar. The team also arrested one person in connection with the drug seizure. The investigation into the matter is underway with the mission of cracking the supply grid.





 Sharing about the state's biggest-ever drug haul, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa took to X and stated: "In a big step towards a Drugs Free Assam, 21kg of heroin has been seized in Silchar in a joint operation by STF Assam & Cachar Police. One person has been arrested and an investigation is underway to crack the supply grid.  Well done Assam Police."






The STF of the Assam police, acting on a tip-off, intercepted the vehicle near Sahidpur which comes under the Silchar police station located in Cachar district in Assam's southern part, NDTV reported.


The report stated that the vehicle was being driven by a man named Laldinuwa, who is the man who has been arrested. The vehicle carrying the drugs began its journey in Aizawl. The heroin was hidden under containers of bread and biscuits, stashed in the rear.


The police received information about the huge drug consignment 10 days ago. As per the tip-off, the drugs were to be taken from a neighboring state into the mainland, and supplied to some big cities from there, the report noted citing the head of Assam STF, Inspector General of Police Partha Sarathi Mahanta.


The value of the entire consignment might go up to Rs 540 crore, the report stated.
