The aftermarket rearsets makes the R3 more track worthy
The Yamaha R3 has been a fantastic bike to ride both on the street and the racetrack. However, its road-biased features has been a hindrance for serious track enthusiasts to unleash its true track potential. For example, the more upright ergonomics poses a challenge in terms of agility and footpeg clearance.
Yoshimura’s new rearsets offer adjustment upto two positions: 45mm back, 20mm up and 45mm back, 35mm up. The rearsets are made of blocks of aluminium billets CNC machined to perfection. They are anodised for protection from scuff marks from your race boots.
Installation is a straight up bolt on affair with the only modification needed being a new rear brake line. Thankfully, the Yoshimura rearset kit includes a Goodridge performance brake line at no extra cost. The rearsets fit all generations of the R3.
At Rs 13,473 (excluding shipping), these rearsets are not cheap. But given the quality and ease of fitment, they offer immense value. Other than their signature exhaust systems, Yoshimura offers other small bits and bobs to get your R3 ready for racing. These include fender eliminators, oil filters and clutch plugs, muffler mounting brackets and an LED turn signal conversion kit.
The R3 has a lot of track potential and the earlier ones, with just a switch from MRFs to more premium stickier tyres, would pose a serious threat to the track-bred KTM RC 390. The 2018 model gets even better with stickier Metzeler tyres and dual-channel ABS as standard fitment. There are a lot of tuning parts out there ranging from lighter and stronger engine internals that should bump horsepower and even lightweight body panels that help bring weight down. Then there are better suspension components that include suspension internals, lower clip-ons and adjustable rearsets designed to extract the best from your R3. In fact, a tricked out R3 can shame a 600cc supersport on the racetrack and we’d love to have one as a project bike!
