Delhi: Wrestler Sushil Kumar has been sent to 6-day police custody in connection with the murder case of 23-year-old Sagar Rana at Chhatrasal Stadium. 


The two-time Olympic medallist was arrested on Saturday by a team of Delhi Police from Mundka area of Delhi. Along with Kumar, Police also arrested Ajay Kumar, the man considered to be wrestler's right-hand.

Soon after the arrest, Sushil and co-accused Ajay Kumar were physically produced before the Delhi Court. The Delhi Police had sought a 12-day custody of  Olympic medallist wrestler Sushil Kumar to question him over his alleged involvement in the death case of 23-year-old wrestler. 


During the proceedings, Additional Public Prosecutor Atul Shrivastava told the court that Kumar's interrogation is required to know the motive behind the crime and recover the weapon used in the murder and the clothes he was wearing during the incident. Srivastava told the court that “the CCTV footage was dismantled, which has to be recovered. They had beaten them like wild animals. The clothes which he was wearing also had to be recovered. 


Following the proceedings, the police was allowed to interrogate him for 30 minutes. Metropolitan Magistrate Divya Malhotra reserved the order on the police remand application. 


Earlier this week, a Delhi Court had declined to grant anticipatory bail to Sushil Kumar. According to Delhi Police, Kumar's last location was traced to Punjab's Bathinda and several teams conducted raids in several parts of Haryana and Punjab to nab the wrestler.

A young wrestler Sagar Rana died, while two of his friends Sonu and Amit Kumar got injured, after they were allegedly assaulted by Sushil Kumar and other wrestlers on May 4 night, at the stadium premises in the national capital.
