New Delhi: Amidst the flaring tensions between Ukraine and Russia that have been going on for more than 10 days, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a second phone call with American President Joe Biden on Sunday, discussing issues concerning security and financial support.
On Sunday, Zelenskyy tweeted, “As part of the constant dialogue, I had another conversation with @POTUS. The agenda included the issues of security, financial support for Ukraine and the continuation of sanctions against Russia.”
The phone call came hours after Zelenskyy addressed the US Senate via video call in which he requested more assistance and blacklisting of Russian oil imports.
According to news agency AFP, the US has agreed to provide additional aid of $10 billion to Ukraine. However, the blacklisting of Russian oil imports has not been granted yet as the American lawmakers fear that it would shoot up the oil prices making more burden for US consumers who are already dealing with inflation.
This was the second phone call between President Zelenskyy and President Biden. Before this, the two leaders had talked on the phone on Thursday regarding the situation at Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
“President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. spoke with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine this evening to receive an update on the fire at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant," the White House had said.
On Friday, Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett also called on Ukrainian and Russian Presidents. Zelenskyy had tweeted, “Prime Minister of Israel @naftalibennett called me after his meeting with Vladimir Putin. We continue dialogue.”
Ukraine has been going through a serious humanitarian crisis since Russia invaded the east European country on February 24.
The two sides have engaged in dialogue a few times since then, but the conflict continues.
