New Delhi: China on Sunday launched a broadside against the Indo-Pacific strategy of the US ahead of the Quad leaders summit in Japan, saying that it is “bound to fail” as it is vigorously promoted by Washington to “contain” Beijing. Targeting the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF), Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi said the strategy is "doomed to fail".
"Facts will prove that the so-called 'Indo-Pacific strategy' is essentially a strategy for creating divisions, a strategy for inciting confrontation, and a strategy for destroying peace," the Chinese foreign ministry said in a statement, according to a Bloomberg report.

US President Joe Biden to unveil IPEF ahead of the QUAD summit that will showcase appearances by other leaders from the region.
The framework is crucial to the Biden administration's attempt in countering China's clout in Asia, following the US withdrawal from talks on the Trans-Pacific Partnership regional trade agreement under former President Donald Trump.
The IPEF is to focus on clean energy, supply-chain resilience, decarbonisation and infrastructure along with taxation and anti-corruption.
US President Joe Biden's Visit
US President Joe Biden is visiting the Indo-Pacific region to increase engagement with allies and counter China's rise and influence. Biden met with South Korea's newly elected leader Yoon Suk Yeol during his first visit to Asia.
On May 24, the Quad summit will be held in Tokyo where US President, Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with his counterparts from Japan and Australia will take part.
