New Delhi: US secretary of state Mike Pompeo talked to India’s National Security adviser Ajit Doval over phone on Wednesday, amid the tensed situation between India and Pakistan, which has risen as an aftermath of the Pulwama terror attack.

As per news agency PTI, the Secretary of State’s office confirmed that Pompeo and Doval are understood to have discussed the current situation in the region during their telephonic talk. Though, no other details are available about their talk.

On Thursday, hours after Trump’s announcement of “upcoming reasonably decent news”, Pakistan PM Imran Khan said that Abhinandan Varthaman, the IAF pilot held captive by Pakistan will be released on Friday.

While India demanded safe and immediate return of its pilot, Trump had said:  “Both India and Pakistan are trying and we are also a part of it.”

He further said that attractive news on the same can be expected soon. “Expect reasonably attractive news” Trump asserted.

Trump had earlier extended support to India by backing its demand of listing Pakistan based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammad as “Global terrorist” and putting a ban on him.

US National Security Adviser John Bolton also talked to his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval for a second time amidst tense ties. Bolton previously talked to Doval on February 15 during which they resolved to hold Pakistan to account for its obligations under the UN resolutions and remove all obstacles to designate Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) leader Masood Azhar as a global terrorist.

had supported India's right to self-defence against cross-border terrorism and offered all assistance to India to bring the perpetrators and backers of the attack promptly to justice.

Tensions have escalated between India and Pakistan in the wake of the Pulwama attack by Pakistan-based JeM and after Pakistan’s violation of Indian air space in response to India’s preemptive strike of terror camps.
