At least seven people were murdered in a shooting at two different residences near Chicago in the United States, police reported on Tuesday. The incident occurred in the 2200 block of West Acres Road in Joliet, Illinois, and the suspect, who is now on the run, has been identified as Romeo Nance, according to police. "A total of seven people were found shot to death" in two locations, Joliet Police Chief Bill Evans said at a press conference.


He stated that Nance, 23, resided in the close neighbourhood of the shootings.


The Joliet Police Department stated that Nance is suspected to be driving a red Toyota Camry and should be considered "armed and dangerous".


Taking to X, the police stated: "Joliet Police Detectives are currently seeking the whereabouts of Romeo Nance, believed to be driving a red Toyota Camry Q730412. This is an active investigation in which we are working with our area law enforcement partners."






Police encouraged anybody with knowledge about Nance or the car to contact their local law enforcement department.


Nance's earlier arrest records showed that when he was detained for aggravated discharge of a firearm involving a lady, he identified his home address as Acres Road. According to court records, Nance was released on bail in connection with the 2023 shooting case and is currently awaiting trial, CBS News reported.


The United States is dealing with a high frequency of mass shootings and occurrences of gun violence.


According to statistics gathered by the Gun Violence Archive, which focuses on American gun violence episodes, there were over 875 gun fatalities in the first three weeks of this year.
