New Delhi: In a horrifying incident, a roller coaster broke down in the middle of a ride at a fair in Wisconsin in the United States, leaving riders hanging upside down for hours. The incident took place at the Forest County festival in Crandon recently, reported CNN.


At least eight people were left dangling upside down when a mechanical failure stalled the ride, the news outlet reported citing the Crandon Fire Department.


According to the reports, everyone has been rescued without any injuries caused. It took the emergency crews more than three hours to rescue them from the ride, as per BBC.


A video showing a number of people hanging from a stalled roller coaster as rescuers climbed the ride to free them went viral on social media.






"All we know is that there is a mechanical failure with the ride where it became stuck in the upright position," Captain Brennan Cook of the Crandon Fire Department told WJFW-TV.


"The ride was recently inspected by the state of Wisconsin here on site and at this time, we do not have any other information", he added.


The passengers and the crews there to help them were harnessed to keep everyone safe during the rescue, Kostichka said, according to CNN.


According to a joint news release from the fire department and Crandon Area Rescue Squad, An off-duty firefighter with specialized ropes rescue training happened to be on the scene and advised the Crandon Fire Department on potential rescue options.


Due to the height of the ride, special equipment and rescue teams were called in to help, the news release said, reported CNN.


As per the report, firefighters from three cities assisted the Crandon Fire Department in the rescue.
