New Delhi: The US President Donald Trump has courted controversy after he said it is a ‘great day’ for George Floyd while speaking about falling unemployment rates in the country. According to reports, the US has recorded a surprise fall in job losses and according to Trump, it is a big step for ‘comeback’.

The president while reporting the news about economic revival from the Rose Garden on Friday said that the data shows that what they have been doing is right.

“This is outstanding what is happening today,” he said during the briefing.

He also spoke about the ongoing protests over racial discrimination and stressed the need for equal treatment especially during encounters with law enforcement. According to a report by IANS said that ‘what is happening in the country is the greatest thing that can happen for race relations.’

What's happened to our country and what you now see is the greatest thing that could happen for race relations, for the African-American community, for the Asian-Americans, for the Hispanic American community, for women, for everything. Because our country is so strong, and that's what my plan is. Equal justice under the law must mean every American receives equal treatment in every encounter with law enforcement regardless of race, colour, gender, or creed," he said.

But while elaborating on this, he added that this is ‘great day for George Floyd.’

"We all saw what happened last week. We can't let that happen. Hopefully, George is looking down right now and saying this is a great thing that's happening for our country. This is a great day for him, it's a great day for everybody. This is a great day for everybody. This is a great, great day in terms of equality," Said Trump in the report.

The death of George Floyd who died after a white police officer knelt on his neck has sparked protests across the world. Several US states have been in unrest ever since the incident as people took to streets demanding justice for Floyd and an end to racial discrimination.
