New Delhi: Amidst the escalating tensions between Russia and Ukraine, the Indian embassy in Ukraine has issued a new advisory for the Indian nationals stuck in the east European country that they should not move to any borders without prior coordination with the embassy or Indian officials.

In its new advisory, the Indian embassy said, “All Indian citizens are advised not to move to any of the border posts without prior coordination with GoI officials at border posts.”

According to the advisory, the Indian embassy officials are finding it difficult to reach people if they move anywhere or reach checkpoints without coordinating with the officials.

“The situation at various border checkpoints is sensitive and the Embassy is working continuously with our Embassies in our neighbouring countries for coordinated evacuation of our citizens.”

It also said that is relatively safe for the Indian nationals in the western part of Ukraine to stay there rather than moving towards border checkpoints.

“Please note, staying in western cities in Ukraine with access of water, food, accommodation and basic amenities is relatively safer and advisable compared to reaching border checkpoints without being fully abreast of the situation,” the advisory read.

It also advised those in the eastern part of the country to stay wherever they are and maintain calm until further instructions and stay indoors as much as possible with whatever water and food supplies are available.

The new advisory emphasised people remaining calm and patient.

The situation in Ukraine is escalating fast. Meanwhile, India has abstained from voting on the matter in the UN Security Council. It has been firm on its stand saying that the top priority of the country right now is the safety of its citizens.
