In second such incident in two days, unidentified motorcyclists shot dead a Sikh trader in Peshawar’s Kakshal neighbourhood in Pakistan on Saturday, reported local media The Express Tribune. The deceased has been identified as Manmohan Singh. According to the report, SP City Abdul Salam Khalid said the incident occurred at around 8pm when the victim was heading home in Guldara Chowk. He was targeted by motorcyclists, who left him severely wounded, the SP was quoted as saying by the Express Tribune.
Khalid added that culprits fled the spot and a probe is on to ascertain the identities of the attackers.
“Investigation is underway to determine whether the incident was a case of targeted killing or something else. The final conclusion will only be revealed once the investigation is completed,” he further said, as per The Express Tribune.
In a similar incident, a Sikh shopkeeper was targeted by armed men on Friday in the same area, the report added. The victim Tarlog Singh, a member of the Sikh community, was attacked near Guldara Chowk. According to Muhammad Alam, the spokesperson for the Peshawar Police, Singh sustained a gunshot wound to his leg and was later discharged from the hospital after receiving medical treatment.
The authorities have launched an investigation into the incidents and are exploring angles to find the truth behind the attacks.
In March, another Sikh shopkeeper was gunned down by unidentified gunmen riding on a motorcycle within the jurisdiction of Rehman Baba police station in the provincial capital. The report stated that the victim, Dayal Singh, was a resident of Peshawar's Mohalla Jogan Shah neighbourhood.
Similarly, in May of last year, Dayal Singh's two cousins, Ranjit Singh and Koljit Singh, were targeted and killed in the suburbs of Sarband Butta Tal Bazar. The Express Tribune report said that an FIR was registered under terrorism provisions for the attack.
