Shark Bites Man's Hand In Florida, Tries To Drag Him Away

In a video that surfaced on social media, a shark can be seen leaping out of the water to bite the hand of a fisherman.

A fisherman, who was washing his hands off the side of a boat in Florida’s Everglades National Park, was bitten by a shark. After the incident, the man reported the shark attack to the officials of the National Park Service. According to abc News, the attack took place in Florida Bay, a 1,360-square-foot lagoon between the southern tip of the Florida peninsula and the Florida Keys. The man was taken to the hospital.

In a statement issued by an official with Everglades and Dry Tortugas National Parks, the park ranger who treated the man, it was stated that the injury “was consistent with a shark bite,” as reported by abc News. “The individual stated he had been fishing from a boat in Florida Bay and was washing his hands in the water when the bite occurred,” the statement read.

The officials stated that the attack is "extremely uncommon" for the Everglades National Park, abc News reported. According to abc News, the video of the attack was confirmed by the National Park’s official. In the video, the shark can be seen leaping out of the water to bite the fisherman's hand. The shark appears to pull the man off the boat into the water. The other fishermen in the boat came to angler's rescue and rushed to pull him back.

The video was shared on Instagram by the thequalifiedcaptain on June 24. The video was shared with the caption, “Today was one of the scariest days on the water I have ever had. It started off great and we were crushing the fish but the sharks were eating some our fish despite our best efforts”. 

Earlier this month, a Russian man died after being mauled and dragged under water by a shark while swimming off the coast of the Red Sea resort of Hurghada in Egypt, the New York Post reported. According to the report, the beach was filled by people, including the victim's father, when the incident took place. According to Egypt’s environment ministry, the man was attacked by a tiger shark.
