'Shame on Who?' Rape victim asks help on streets, the reaction will SHOCK you! Watch Video
'Are you drunk?', 'Are you on drugs?' people asked the lady. A man also asks others to look at her clothes - a white top and skirt - and further said his 'sister would never wear such clothes'.
New Delhi: Facing sexual assault of any kind could be the most petrifying experience for any person. Further, it could be even more disturbing for the victim if she/he is not being heard and rather being blamed for any sort of heinous crime. What a shame!
Fighting against the similar attitude, Lebanese civil society has insisted on confronting "victim-blaming culture". It has kicked off a campaign - 'Shame On Who?' - with the aim of raising awareness among people to start protecting rape victims instead of blaming them.
A Lebanese NGO released a video on social media where a rape victim (a role played by a young girl as a rape victim in the video) was seen asking for help from the people on the streets. She went to the men, boys, women, and requested every passerby to help her. But the reaction of the people will shock you! It will make you question the society we live in.
Instead of anyone coming forward to help, people showered a number of questions on the victim. 'Are you drunk?', 'Are you on drugs?' people asked the lady. A man also asks others to look at her clothes - a white top and skirt - and further said his 'sister would never wear such clothes'. Shockingly, there were both men and women. Some women even ask her to 'not say these things out loud', while others say she is 'just some whore someone f****d and left on the streets'.
The campaign is an attempts to de-stigmatise sexual assault by putting the blame on the perpetrator instead of the victim. Here, watch the video that has now gone viral on the social media:
The video has garnered a lot of reaction on social media and triggered a debate about the same.
