New Delhi: In a highly shocking incident at least eight people died while several others were injured after a gunman opened fire at Perm State University (PSU) in Perm Krai region in Russian on Monday morning.
According to preliminary reports, the unidentified gunman reportedly entered the university around 11 am and opened fire in one of the buildings at PSU in the Urals region, close to where Europe and Asia meet.
The Perm State University press service reported that the unidentified perpetrator used a non-lethal gun. The patrified students and staff of the university locked themselves in rooms and auditoriums to hide from the attacker while those who could manage, escaped the horrifying shoot-out.
Several videos have surfaced showing some students jumping out of the windows in a bid to run out.
Another video making rounds on social media seems to be taken from inside the building, showing an armed person dressed in black and wearing a helmet slowly walking across the campus
According to the RT news, the crisis ended with the perpetrator apprehended. According to some media reports, he was injured by the police.
The Indian Embassy in Russia has informed that all the Indian students are safe. "Shocked at horrific attack at Perm State University in Russia; our deep condolences for loss of life & best wishes for early recovery of those injured. Embassy in touch with local authorities, representatives of Indian students. All Indian students safe," the Embassy said.
