New Delhi: United States President Joe Biden announced a direct budgetary aid of $500 million to war hit Ukraine, the White House on Wednesday. 


The announcement came during the US President Joe Biden’s conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Wednesday as Russian invasion in Ukraine entered its sixth week today.


The US President discussed USA’s continued support to war-hit Ukraine, the White House added. 


Biden also reviewed additional sanctions and humanitarian aid announced last week.


 






“President Biden informed President Zelensky that the US intends to provide Ukraine with $500mn in direct budgetary aid. He also reviewed additional sanctions & humanitarian aid announced last week. Pres Zelensky updated Pres Biden on the status of Ukraine’s negotiations with Russia,” the White House said. 


“US President Joe Biden & Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed how the US is working around the clock to fulfil the main security assistance requests by Ukraine, the critical effects those weapons have had on the conflict,” the White House added.

Meanwhile, Moscow has agreed to “radically” reduce military activity in Ukrainian capital Kyiv and Chernigiv during first face-to-face talks between Russia and Ukraine held in Turkey on Tuesday, news agency AFP had reported.  


Following the meeting, Russian negotiators stated that 'meaningful' talks were held with Ukraine. They had also said that a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelensky could be possible after the Istanbul talks
