New Delhi: As many as 14 drones were shot down and six others were electronically jammed after Ukraine targeted Moscow-annexed Crimea on Saturday, Russian Defence Ministry said as reported by news agency AP. No casualties or damage were reported.
As videos emerged on the Russian social media showing smoke rising above a bridge linking Russia to Crimea, Russian-installed governor of the Crimean Peninsula said the Russian forces shot down two missiles in the region. "Air defence forces shot down two enemy missiles over the Kerch Strait. The Crimean bridge was not damaged," Sergei Aksyonov, the Russian-installed governor of Crimean Peninsula said on social media.
However, Ukraine neither confirmed nor denied it’s involvement in the air attacks, as per the AP report.
The bridge connecting Crimea and Russia, which carries a logistical importance for Moscow as being the key route for military and civilian supplies, has reported several drone attacks over the last few months.
According to AP, a Ukrainian sea drone hit a Russian tanker near the bridge last week, while another air attack killed a couple and injured their daughter last month.
Meanwhile, Russia on Saturday claimed that it had regained control of the village of Urozhaine in Ukraine’s Luhansk region in an overnight counterattack, AP reported. A 73-year-old woman was killed earlier in the day in Russian shelling of Ukraine’s northeastern Kharkiv region, according to local Governor Oleh Syniehubov.

According to Ukrainian internal affairs minister Ihor Klymenko, a police officer was killed and 12 others were injured after a guided Russian aerial bomb hit the city of Orikhiv in Ukraine’s partially occupied southern Zaporizhzhia region, AP reported. Four of the injured persons were police personnel, the minister added.
