The State Funeral for Queen Elizabeth II will be held at Westminster Abbey on September 19. It is expected to be one of the largest gatherings of British aristocracy and politicians in recent decades. Around 2,200 people can be accommodated inside Westminster Abbey, and many members of royal families from around the world are anticipated to attend with around 500 world leaders. Since the death of former prime minister Winston Churchill in 1965, this will be the first state funeral in its entirety to be held in the nation.
President Droupadi Murmu will offer condolences on behalf of the Indian government, the Ministry of External Affairs announced on Wednesday. She arrived in London on September 17 to attend the funeral and will return back on September 19. Prime Minister Narendra Modi too received an invitation but there has been no word on whether he will be attending the ceremony.
Each head of state can bring one other person as a company. Invites to this huge event have been sent almost everywhere except Russia, Belarus and Myanmar where it has imposed economic sanctions, reported Reuters. Syria and Venezuela have also been not invited to the event as London does not have normal diplomatic relations with these states.
