Several years after a former Puerto Rican beauty queen was accused of hiring a hitman to kill her millionaire husband, a trial of the case got underway in San Juan on Tuesday.
Aurea Vazquez Rijos who stands accused of hiring hitman Alex Pabon Colon to kill her husbandAdam Anhang Uster in September 2005, has spent several years in Europe as a fugitive.
The prosecutors are of the view that the objective behind the murder was ti ‘obtain financial success’, AFP reported. Rijos had signed a prenuptial agreement before ordering murder of Anhang. As per reports at the time of his death, her husband had a net worth of 24 million dollars.
It is reported that shortly after getting married to the former beauty queen; Anhang began to explore possibilities of divorcing her.
However, as per the terms of agreement, she would get much more amount as a window, than if she divorced. She then allegedly called her husband for dinner to make it easier for the hitman to finish his job.
.However, later in September 2005, the hitman confessed to killing Anhang Uster, after the couple left the restaurant. He also reportedly admitted hitting the accused to make the attack look like a robbery and not murder.
The accused fled to Italy before the prosecution issued the first indictment. She was arrested in Spain in 2013 and then extradited.
