A Ford Escort car once owned by Diana, Princess of Wales, has been sold for £50,000. Comparing the price in US dollars, the car was sold for $69,200 while in Indian rupees the car was sold for Rs 51.4 lakh. A South American museum bought this car through auction.


Lewis Rabett of Reeman Dansie Auctions, where the car was sold, told that after being bought by a South American Museum the interest in this car will increase globally. 


The silver 1.6L Ghia saloon car was gifted to the Princess of Wales by Prince Charles during two months before their wedding. The grand wedding of Princess Diana and Prince Charles took place in 1981 at St. Cathedral in London.

This car was first auctioned in 1982. An antique dealer bought this car for 6000 pounds. Thereafter, the car was bought by a telephone bidder for 52,640 pounds. The cost included the sales tax and buyer's premium.


This car still has a British number plate. Its number is WEV 297W. The speedometer clock of the car shows 133,575 km running.


Diana died in 1997 in a speeding car crash. She was driving the car at a very high speed in a long tunnel to avoid the photographers. Diana was only 36 years old during the time of her death.
