Prime Minister Narendra Modi was greeted with a grand ceremonial welcome at the prestigious Qasr Al Watan in Abu Dhabi. The UAE President, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, extended his warm welcome to the Indian Prime Minister, marking the beginning of an important visit that aims to strengthen bilateral ties between India and the United Arab Emirates. PM Modi arrived in Abu Dhabi on Saturday (July 15) for a day-long visit to the UAE.
PM Modi arrived in Abu Dhabi after a successful two-day visit to Paris, where he served as the Guest of Honour at the Bastille Day parade and signed several agreements to strengthen bilateral ties with French President Emmanuel Macron.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi assured the UAE's COP-28 presidency of India's full support during productive talks with the UN climate conference's President-designate Sultan Al Jaber.
The 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, or COP28, will be the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference, taking place from November 30 to December 12 at Expo City in Dubai.
Since the first UN climate agreement in 1992, the conference has been held annually. It is used by governments to reach agreements on policies to limit global temperature rises and adapt to the effects of climate change.
PM Modi's visit to the UAE is expected to focus on energy, food security, and defence, with the two countries reviewing bilateral relations after signing a landmark trade agreement.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, the two countries signed the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which gave a new impetus to their economic engagement.
Trade, investments, energy, food security, science and technology, education, fintech, defence, security, and strong people-to-people ties are among the many areas in which India and the UAE are involved.
The Indian expatriate community is the largest ethnic community in the UAE, accounting for roughly 30% of the total population. According to UAE records, the number of resident Indian Nationals is expected to reach 3.5 million in 2021.
