As Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to take part in the World Climate Action Summit in Dubai, the Indian diaspora in the UAE has expressed its excitement for welcoming him. PM Modi, who arrived in Dubai on Thursday, will address the opening session of the summit and partake in three high-level side events, two of which will be co-hosted by India. Members of the 3.3 million-strong Indian diaspora in the UAE conveyed their enthusiasm and gratitude for the Prime Minister's visit.




PM Modi took to X and wrote: "Landed in Dubai to take part in the COP-28 Summit. Looking forward to the proceedings of the Summit, which are aimed at creating a better planet."



Rishi Chawla, a Delhi resident residing in Dubai for the past 18 years, shared his excitement while speaking to news agency ANI, "There is tremendous anticipation ahead of powerhouse PM Modi's visit. We are really looking forward to seeing him".



Students also expressed their enthusiasm for the opportunity to meet PM Modi. Siddhartha, a student, told ANI, "We are extremely grateful to be here. It is motivational for us to meet PM Modi and to represent the future of the diaspora. His visit brings us all together."


Sanjay Gagrani, a native of Madhya Pradesh, expressed his joy, saying, "It's a moment of happiness that PM Modi will land today in Dubai. Under PM Modi's leadership, India is achieving new heights of success. Moreover, bilateral ties between India and the UAE are reaching peak levels. We are very excited to meet him and greet him."



Aashna Mulgaonkar, who said she has been living in Dubai for 18 years, told ANI that "It is like a festive feeling here in Dubai at the moment as our Prime Minister is arriving in Dubai. Everyone has come here leaving aside their tensions or traffic woes. It is a moment of pride for us."


"He has taken Bharat to a different level, we are all proud of him. We as expatriates know the importance of leaving our country and living here. It is like a mini India here, and we are happy to be a part of it," she added.



Dr Mustafa Tahir, a member of the Dawoodi Bohra community, said, "It is an honour and privilege to be here when PM Modi is arriving here. He treats us like a member of his family. He is coming for the COP28 and India has an active role in sustainability...due to the leadership of PM Modi."

'Global South Spoke For Need For Climate Action': PM Modi Ahead Of COP28 Talks In Dubai


In his departure statement ahead of the COP28 climate talks in Dubai, PM Modi highlighted India's commitment to climate action and sustainable development. He stated, "India has always laid emphasis on climate action even as we pursue social and economic development. I look forward to the COP-28 taking forward the consensus on these issues."


The World Climate Action Summit of COP-28, taking place from November 30 to December 12, is significant in the context of climate discussions. The summit provides an opportunity to review progress under the Paris Agreement and set a course for future climate action. PM Modi will engage in discussions on climate finance, the Green Credit initiative, and LeadIT during the event.


"COP28 will also provide an opportunity to review progress made under the Paris Agreement, and chart a path for future course on climate action. At the Voice of Global South Summit convened by India, the Global South spoke for the need for climate action based on the principles of equity, climate justice, and common but differentiated responsibilities, as well as a greater focus on adaptation. It is important that efforts of the developing world be supported with adequate climate financing and technology transfer.  They must have access to equitable carbon and development space to achieve sustainable development," PM Modi stated.


He emphasised that India has "walked the talk" when it comes to climate action. "Our achievements in different sectors like renewable energy, energy efficiency, afforestation, energy conservation, Mission LiFE are testament to the commitment of our people towards mother Earth," he added.


The Prime Minister's visit to Dubai is at the invitation of the President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. PM Modi expressed happiness that the summit is being held under the UAE's presidency, emphasising the nation's importance as a key partner for India in climate action.
