New Delhi: Asad Shah Jeelani, a member of an influential group of seers in Pakistan, was arrested for allegedly torturing his 10-year-old domestic help to death, Geo News reported. Jeelani, a member of Pirs of Ranipur in Pakistan's Sindh province, was arrested by Khairpur Police.
According to the report, the incident came to light when videos of the victim, Fatima Furiro, with torture marks on her body, went viral on the social media. Fatima was the daughter of Nadeem Ali Furiro, resident of village Ali Muhammad Tharro, Khanawahan, near Mehrabpur, and the family is believed to be followers of the Pir of Ranipur, the report stated.
In one of the videos that went viral, the seriously injured girl can be seen struggling to sit up on her bed but collapses soon after, Geo News reported.
According to the report, taking note of the viral video clips, Sukkur DIG Javed Soonharo Jiskani directed SSP Shikarpur Rohal Khan Khoso and ASP Mohammad Nauman Zaffar to probe the case.
SSP Khoso and ASP Zaffar visited Ali Mohammad Furiro’s village to record her parents’ statements. They were initially hesitant to record a statement against the Pir, however, later agreed to report the incident.
Her parents had initially attributed the child’s death to illness, Geo News reported.
"My daughter was subjected to the worst form of torture for many days by the Pirs of Ranipur and died due to multiple injuries," her mother Shabana was quoted as saying by Geo News.
Based on Fatima’s mother’s complaint, police registered a case and arrested Pir Asad. The Ranipur Police have registered an FIR under Sections 302 (Qatl-i-amd; premeditated murder) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the PPC, according to Geo News.
Earlier last month, a pilot and her husband were arrested for allegedly torturing their 10-year-old domestic help in Dwarka. According to police, medical test showed the girl sustained some injuries and had burn marks.
