New Delhi: As the Ukrainian crisis enters day seven after Russian aggression into their borders, the Indian government has amplified efforts to evacuate its citizens stuck in the east European country.

In regard to the same, civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, India’s envoy to oversee the evacuation process, met the Indian Ambassador to Romania and Moldova, Rahul Shrivastava. He discussed operational issues for evacuation and the flight plan from Bucharest and Suceava in the coming days.

“Met the Indian Ambassador to Romania & Moldova, Sh Rahul Shrivastava Ji to discuss the operational issues for evacuation and the flight plan from Bucharest & Suceava in the coming days. #OperationGanga in full gear!” he wrote on Koo post the meeting.

He also informed that the Moldova borders have been opened for the incoming students and proper food and shelter have also been arranged for them.

“Moldova’s borders have been opened for incoming Indian students. Proper shelter and food arrangements will be made. Talks are on to make arrangements for their journey to Bucharest for onward flight to India. @MEAIndia @DrSJaishankar @PMOIndia #OperationGanga” he wrote in another tweet.

At the Bucharest airport, he also met with the students waiting for their flights to India.

Posting some photos with those students, he wrote, “Met & interacted with Indian students awaiting their flights at the Bucharest Airport. Overwhelmed by their grit & concerned by their anxiety amid the tough times. However, assured them of their quick departure from Bucharest. PM @narendramodi ji & all of India have got their back!”

On February 24, Russia launched an invasion of Ukraine which left thousands of Indian students stranded there. In order to rescue them safely, the Government of India launched Operation Ganga under which many flights have traveled to and fro Ukraine and its neighbouring countries.

In light of the intensifying conflict, the Indian government has prepared an envoy of four cabinet ministers to oversee and ensure a smooth evacuation process. Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia is supposed to oversee Romania and Moldova, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri will oversee evacuation efforts in Hungary, Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju in Slovakia, and Gen (retd) VK Singh in Poland.

Meanwhile, the 24*7 control centers are also set up to assist Indian nationals who are crossing the border via Poland, Hungary, and Slovakia.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the Indian Air Force has also been roped in for the fast evacuation of Indian nationals under Operation Ganga. The IAF will also assist in providing aid to Ukraine which is running short on food, fuel, and medical aid.
