New Delhi: After several explosives targeting prominent Democrats and news network CNN were intercepted en route, now reports of a similar suspicious package addressed to popular Hollywood actor, producer and director Robert De Niro have surfaced.

As per news reports, police are investigating a suspicious package addressed to actor Robert De Niro in New York. The package was addressed to De Niro at an address in the Tribeca area of Manhattan, CNN quoted two law enforcement sources as saying.

The report comes just a day after the Federal Bureau of Investigation confirmed reports about pipe bombs sent to Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and other prominent Democrats.

It is to be noted that Robert De Niro is an outspoken critic of President Trump.

Serial explosives targeting those criticised by Trump?

Two weeks ahead of the national midterm elections, explosive devices made from PVC pipe containing shards of glass, were intercepted along the route to several prominent Democrats on Wednesday including former President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.

One of the explosives was also sent to Time Warner Center in Manhattan where CNN’s office is located and it prompted evacuation of the bureau.

It is to be noted that the bombs were addressed to those who were constantly criticised by Republican president Donald Trump. Hillary and Obama have always got the harsher side of Trump, while CNN has often been dubbed as “Fake News Media” by Trump on several occasions.

The first crude bomb was reportedly found in a mailbox at the suburban New York home of George Soros, the liberal billionaire philanthropist who has been denounced by US President Donald Trump.

The FBI said an additional package was intended for former Attorney General Eric Holder, but that one ended up at a Florida office of Democratic Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, whose return address was on it. Later Wednesday, the FBI said two additional packages addressed for Rep. Maxine Waters had been intercepted that were similar in appearance to five others, media reports said.
