New Delhi: The national election in Australia will be held on May 21, media reports citing the Prime Minister’s office on Sunday said.
Australians will go to the polls next month to decide whether the Coalition retains power with Scott Morrison as Prime Minister, the Prime Minister’s office has confirmed or whether to put a new Labor government, led by Anthony Albanese, in office, The Sydney Morning Herald reported, as per news agency ANI.
Meanwhile, Labor leader Anthony Albanese has been rubbing shoulders with voters at the Royal Easter Show in Sydney, the report added.

“Anthony Albanese and Labor have a plan for a better future. Anthony Albanese is a proven leader with a record of delivering on his promises and a plan to shape our future, so nobody is held back and no one is let behind,” the Australian Labor party tweeted.
“We have the opportunity to build an economy which actually sees us making things in Australia again, actually turning science into jobs, and generating the kind of secure, well-paid employment which will get wages going again,” the Australian Labor party wrote on the micro-blogging platform.

“It’s on. The election has been called for May 21. It’s time for better Medicare. It’s time for better aged care. It’s time for better child care. It’s time for an Albanese Labor Government that cares,” the Australian Labor party said in a series of tweets.
Meanwhile, the Australian Prime Minister visited the country’s Governor-General David Hurley, who represents Britain's Queen Elizabeth, at his residence in Canberra on Sunday, Reuters reported television networks as showing.
The move assumes significance as the Governor-General’s authorisation is necessary to dissolve the Parliament and order a general election.
This comes as Morrison’s centre-right coalition is trailing the opposition Labor party as per the opinion polls.
