In an unusual incident, a naked woman armed with a gun opened fire into oncoming traffic using a gun on busy Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge in Northern California in the United States on Tuesday, July 25. There was no report of any casualties and the woman was taken into custody, reported ABC news.

At 4.40 pm, California Highway Patrol received 911 calls reporting that another driver was brandishing a gun at them on the I-80 span, which crosses the San Francisco Bay. Initially, the woman stopped in the middle of her lane, got out of her car with a knife and started screaming. Soon, she got back into her car, drove to the toll plaza and got out naked with a gun in her hand.

"She was yelling at other vehicles, she began firing shots into the air, and then as other vehicles appeared to be kind of confused as to what was happening - maybe thinking there was a crash and they were trying to drive around it," CHP spokesperson Officer Andrew Barclay said to ABC. "As they were trying to drive around, she started firing rounds towards those other vehicles," he further said.

As the California Highway Patrol reached the location, the woman was shooting indiscriminately. She was asked to put down her weapon but refused. However, after a while she put down her firearm and was arrested by the police, the New York Post report stated.

The motive behind the shooting is unclear and the woman has been taken to a local hospital and placed on a mental health hold. She is likely to be booked on unspecified charges after being released.

“Due to the severity of the incident here, there are criminal charges that can be filed. So what we have to do is we have to allow the hospital to do their job. Give her the treatment and help that she needs and then once she is released from that, then, we can take her into custody,” CHP officer Andrew Barclay said, according to NBC Bay Area.
