On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump confirmed the news that a senior North Korean official is en route to New York as part of preparations for a planned summit with leader Kim Jong Un.
"We have put a great team together for our talks with North Korea. Meetings are currently taking place concerning Summit, and more. Kim Young Chol, the Vice Chairman of North Korea, heading now to New York. Solid response to my letter, thank you!" Trump wrote in a tweet.
As per reports General Kim Yong Chol landed at Beijing airport and will move to New York the following day after holding talks with Chinese officials.
The much-awaited Trump-Kim summit has been an on-off-on affair so far.
As of now, the meeting is scheduled to take place on June 12 in Singapore.
North Korea had asserted that it is willing to hold talks with the US after Trump had decided to pull off from it.
