An attack at a holiday party in the central Mexican state of Guanajuato left 12 people dead. The attack took place at dawn in the town of Salvatierra ahead of Christmas. An armed group opened fire at the people who participated in the Posada celebrations (A traditional party which is organised over multiple days between December 16 and Christmas Eve). 


After the attack, the State's Attorney General's Office said that 12 people were killed without giving much details about the deceased, as reported by news agency Reuters. 


The Constitutional Governor of the State of Guanajuato, Diego Sinhue Rodríguez Vallejo tweeted, "I have issued instructions to the bodies of Secretary of Public Security of the State of Guanajuato so that they can find the whereabouts of those responsible for this unfortunate event. My condolences to the families. Salvatierra is not alone. Secretary of Government of the State of Guanajuato is in constant communication with the municipal authorities, we will support the families of the victims."
