Florida [United States], Aug 27 (ANI): A suspect has been killed, among others, in a mass shooting that took place in downtown Jacksonville, Florida on Sunday (local time).

"One suspect is dead at the scene, unknown at this time if we have a second suspect. Searches are being conducted," a tweet from Jacksonville Sheriff's Office read.

The incident, which caused multiple fatalities, occurred in the Jacksonville Landing area, located along St. Johns River, which has a wide variety of dining options, bars, and a shopping mall. Gunshots were reported on social media by a number of people during the Madden NFL (American football video game) Championship Series.

"Sunday's event of Madden NFL 19 was held at GLHF Game Bar, which is located in Jacksonville Landing," Fox News reported.

In the wake of the incident, police cordoned off the area and appealed to the public to refrain from visiting the area, and provided a helpline number on Twitter to those trapped inside the shooting venue.

"We are finding many people hiding in locked areas at The Landing. We ask you to stay calm, stay where you are hiding. SWAT is doing a methodical search inside The Landing. We will get to you. Please don't come running out. #TheLandingMassShooting" another tweet read.
