A Pakistani Journalist, Ajay Lalwani was killed in Sindh's Sukkur on March 18th while he was waiting for his turn at a barbershop for a haircut.
Ajay Lalwani, 31 was a reporter of a local television station and was a local general news correspondent for the privately-owned Urdu language Daily Puchano, who died yesterday after suffering three gunshot wounds on Wednesday evening in Sukkur, in northern Sindh Province.
Ajay was one of the most vocal journalists in Pakistan as per th website, The News and he used to raise issues in the interest of minorities, especially Hindus and their pathetic situation in Pakistan. He used to write against the Pakistani Government’s biased policies against minorities.
On March 15, police lodged terrorism charges against journalists covering recent protests against the police, according to Pakistan website The News.
According to a report by CPJ, Lalwani was an active participant in the Sindh Journalist Council, an organization of local journalists that has engaged in such demonstrations.
Editor of the Daily Puchano, Ashiq Jatoi said that Lalwani was sitting in a barber shop in the Salehpat area of Sukkur when two motorcycles and a car with four passengers drove by and opened fire, striking Lalwani in the stomach, arm, and knee.
While this is still unclear that what was the cause of his death, Ashiq Mirani, the area police chief said that it is being probed if Lalwani was killed because of his “professional duties."
