US President Joe Biden on Wednesday urged people to vote in the next week’s midterm elections against lies violence and dangerous “ultra MAGA” election disruptors who are trying to “succeed where they failed” in subverting the 2020 elections. Joe Biden said that democracy cannot be taken for granted in the country and reiterated that people have to defend democracy.

Joe Biden’s remarks came just a week ahead of the mid-term elections. In his Democratic National Committee speech, Biden said, "American democracy is under attack because the defeated former president of the United States refused to accept the results of the 2020 election." While addressing the nation on preserving and protecting democracy, Biden said, "We can't take democracy for granted any longer."

After giving reassurance about America’s economy and inflation for weeks, Biden during his speech targeted former US President Donald Trump and said that the nation’s system of governance is under threat from former President Donald Trump’s election-denying lies and the violence Biden said they inspire.

"He (Trump) refuses to accept the will of the people, he refuses to accept the fact that he lost. He has abused his power and put the loyalty to himself before loyalty to the Constitution. And he's made a big lie an article of faith of the mega Republican Party, the minority of that party."

"This intimidation, this violence against Democrats, Republicans, and non-partisan officials just doing their jobs, is the consequence of lies told for power and profit, lies of conspiracy and malice, lies repeated over and over to generate a cycle of anger, hate, vitriol, and even violence," Biden said speaking at a Democratic National Committee event at Union Station near the Capitol.

Emphasising on the political violence and threats to democracy, Biden urged people to confront those lies with the truth, "the very future of our nation depends on it".

During his speech, Biden pointed out “ultra MAGA” Republicans referring to Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan. He calls them a minority but a “driving force” of the Republican Party.

Biden also recalled the attack on US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband, Paul Pelosi, Biden said, "After the assailant entered the home asking where is Nancy, where is Nancy those were the very same word used by the mob when they stormed the US capitol on January 6. When they broke the window kicked in the doors brutally attacked law enforcement roam the carters...and erected gallows to hang former vice-president Mike Pence. It was an enraged mob that have been whipped up into a frenzy by a President repeating over and over again that the big lie that the election of 20202 had been stolen, it's a lie that fueled the dangerous rise in political violence and voter intimidation over the past two years," AP quoted Biden as saying.

Biden urged the voters to reject candidates who have denied the results of the vote, which even Trump’s own administration declared to be free of any widespread fraud or interference. Biden asked voters to “think long and hard about the moment we are in.”

“In a typical year, we are not often faced with the question of whether the vote we cast will preserve democracy or put it at risk,” he said. “But we are this year”, AP quoted Biden as saying. “I hope you’ll make the future of our democracy an important part of your decision to vote and how you vote,” Biden added.

Biden’s remarks saw sharp criticism from some Republicans. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, who stands to be speaker of the House if the GOP retakes control of the chamber.

“President Biden is trying to divide and deflect at a time when America needs to unite—because he can’t talk about his policies that have driven up the cost of living. The American people aren’t buying it,” McCarthy tweeted. Biden’s remarks came from Washington’s Union Station, blocks from the U.S.
